How it began.
In the summer of 2020, the US was gripped by a wave of mass civil unrest after high profile incidents of police brutality, public lynchings, and violent racism towards Black Americans mobilized communities to call for justice and the dismantling of systemic racism in America.
A group of diverse Black Muslims in New York City came together to create solutions around key challenges facing populations of African descent and Black Muslims in New York City, including Islamophobia, structural racism and discrimination from in and outside the Muslim community.
What we strive for.
Black Muslims Now was founded in the spirit of great Black Muslim American leaders that have uplifted and empowered the people of New York City and across the US. BMN links members to local events, volunteer opportunities, Islamic events, and much more, to build community cohesion, empowerment, and to create safe racism-free spaces.
